Pili Nut Tree: The Source of Manila Elemi Oil

The international luxury brand “Chanel” launched a new skin care product. The product’s key ingredient comes from Philippines. From the latex of Pili Nut tree, the Manila Elemi Oil.

Here is the description of their product under the Wrinkles and Firmness category.chanel ultra correction lift

ULTRA CORRECTION LIFT goes beyond surface action and offers a firming approach based on a natural lifting effect at the heart of cells. CHANEL discovered the key role of a dermal protein in the skin-aging process. Its name: tensin. Tensin preserves the shape and vitality of cells, for a maximum level of skin density and suppleness. However, with age, its production diminishes.

Now CHANEL has created an exclusive active ingredient*, elemi PFA**, which is able to boost tensin production. With the ULTRA CORRECTION LIFT mask, the face appears firmer. Upon application, its fresh texture acts like a revitalizing boost, and gives an instant lifting effect. The face appears firmer, more toned and supple, glowing with vitality. Once again, your face is visibly younger-looking.

* elemi PFA: active ingredient developed using a patented process exclusive to CHANEL. Patent pending.
** PFA: PolyFractioning of Active ingredients. A specific process developed by CHANEL that allows for the creation of ultra-pure cosmetic active ingredients.

The Pili Nut tree aside for it nuts is also a source of latex or locally known as pulot. A horizontal scar is made on tree bark about 3 to 12 inches horizontal length.  Cut should not be too wide and a circular wound around the tree should be avoided. It will result to wilting. The bark wound will become watery and a the latex similar to candle tears will exude after three days. It is then harvested and wrapped firmly in plastic to prevent drying.

pili nutThe Manila Elemi Oil is separated from latex by means of hydrodistillation.

Latex is sold for 70 to 80 per kilogram. Exported to France and Germany. The demand for this resin is high. The only exporter is Philippines. Requirement is 20 to 30 metric tons per month. The average producer’s capacity is only two metric tons per month. This is not surprising cause the only pulot producer is Barangay Manapao, Gubat, Sorsogon.

I first heard and watched the information from GMA7 Jessica Soho.

Do you have any idea where to sell the PULOT here in Metro Manila? I’m interested to venture into this. Our town in Sorsogon, not Gubat, is also a major producer of pili nuts. Hope to get feedback from you. Thanks a lot!!!

Try contacting DOST or DTI. They can help you find markets for your pulot. Production will be your problem once you catch the market. The demand for this product is really high!

Those 2 government agencies are anemically futile and helpless when it comes to helping people to market Pili resin. We are just wasting our taxes for these 2 agencies. They better shut down.
