My laptop hard disk got busted. Buying a replacement is not worth. My laptop is doing some strange thing that causes hardware failure.
A lappy without an OS is a trash. What else could I do with it.
Most computer models are now able to boot from a usb stick. A small operating system enough to fit in a usb drive will allow me to use the err laptop again. Window OS is damn bug. There are few tutorials on how to put it in flash disk but I never dared trying. There will be a lots of bugs for sure.
I tried few portable linux distros like Slax, Puppy linux, Backtrack, Damn Small Linux and Crunch Bang. They are the populars but never gave me good results.
I found the Knoppix Linux accidentally using the Pendrive Linux’s Universal USB installer. I saw it listed on drop down menu list. I tried it and it gave me the best user experience.
With Knoppix Linux I can:
1) Connect to internet via lan or wireless connection.
2) Surf the internet and watch online videos using Iceweasel.
3) Watch videos offline using the custom installed VLC player.
4) Edit pictures using GIMP Editor.
5) Create various documents by means of Libre Office.
It provides all the tools I needed for my daily blogging.
