Why Windows Has Lots of Viruses While Linux and Mac are Virus Free?

I am using Linux OS on my laptop and Widows on my desktop. If Linux will have a good support for popular MMORPG games, I will dish out windows and replace it with Linux.  The main problem with windows is the the proliferation of viruses. It is vulnerable to virus attacks. A good antivirus program is needed for protection. Purchasing a yearly antivirus license is a bit irritating.

How about the Linux and Mac OS. I already seen several antivirus programs designed for Linux. I bet only few dare to use one. The two alternative OS  are not foolproof but the risk is  very low. Is if safe to say that viruses are designed to work in Window based systems.

Windows have more viruses – reasons:

1) Window is an expensive OS. One license per PC. A single installation CD should not be installed in several computers. Plus – it is a plain OS. Other useful softwares like Office, Adobe and Ulead should be purchased separately. Obviously, virus makers are haters. They want to pin it down.

2) Many Linux distribution are free. Others can be bought for a minimum fee. All the useful tools are free – included in a CD package or can be downloaded from repositories.  We love “free”. Why make viruses for a free software?

3) Mac OS is also free. It is included with purchase of Mac computer. All the essential softwares  are included. Why sabotage a nice product package?

4) Making viruses is a business. Who knows, antivirus companies might be developing viruses, spread it and then sell solutions.

Note:  All ideas were based on my opinion and opinions of my friends and colleagues. Yours might be different.
