I was about to throw my old Asus router box. The device was not working anymore. What else should I do with the carton? I noticed the Green Asus RoHS compliant logo. Interesting! It seems that many electronic companies are getting aware of environmental care. I did some googling to find out more about this RoHS thing.
A short summary. RoHS is a directive that restricts common dangerous substances used in electronics. It restricts six substances:
Cadmium and Hexavalent Chromium – Less than 0.01% of the substance by weight.
Lead, Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDE) – Less than 0.1% of the substance by weight.
Mercury – Should be 100ppm or lesser. The substance must not be intentionally added.
In addition, Asus further restricts an additional of 31 harmful substances.
